You have taken the citizenship oath and received a UK naturalisation certificate (or other foreign passport). Indian law requires surrender of your Indian passport.
Applying for OCI
A renunciation certificate (or an annotation on the surrendered Indian passport, depending on date and rules in force) is required before a Fresh OCI application can be submitted.

Is surrender of my Indian passport mandatory?
Yes. Indian law requires surrender of the Indian passport after acquiring foreign citizenship. Renunciation certificates and Fresh OCI applications both depend on it.
Are there penalty fees for late surrender?
The Indian Government has set penalty fees depending on the year of naturalisation. We confirm current penalty rates on WhatsApp once you share your naturalisation date.
Can I apply for Fresh OCI before my surrender certificate arrives?
The surrender process must be completed first. Many clients combine both at the same VFS visit where possible. We coordinate the timing.
Do I need to attend VFS in person?
